WAM is honored to have been recognized with the Many Faces of Dementia Trailblazer Award at the 10th biennial Many Faces of Dementia conference—presented by Alzheimer’s Los Angeles, in partnership with USC—held in Los Angeles in February. WAM’s Director of Strategic Partnerships, Sandy Gleysteen, accepted the award on behalf of Maria Shriver and WAM.
This prestigious award recognizes an individual who has worked to bring increased attention to the issues of persons with dementia and those who care for them. Maria Shriver and WAM received the award based on their ongoing commitment to raising awareness of the role women face as both sufferers of Alzheimer’s disease and caregivers and for Maria’s leadership on the statewide task force.
This year’s conference focused on “Caring Across Diverse Communities” bringing a spotlight to issues faced by those in minority communities, including stigma, cultural beliefs, and access to care. The conference was attended by over 200 health professionals from across the greater Los Angeles region.
