Diana Younan, PhD

Dr. Diana Younan was one of the 2018 WAM Research Grant recipients. She used her funding to ask: What is the impact of nutrition/diet and environment over the female adult life course on the onset and progression of cognitive decline and dementia? After several years of studying this topic, Dr. Younan found that the interplay between diet, nutrition and air pollution may play a role in impacting the racial disparities in the risk of developing Alzheimer’s. In particular, the study determined that older African American women may be more vulnerable to the increased Alzheimer’s disease risk associated with air pollution compared to white women.
